The City of Salida announced on December 19 that, for the third year in a row, the Finance Department has won the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive financial report for 2023.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is given by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The GFOA represents over 20,000 finance officials through the United States and Canada, and strives to “advance excellence in public finance”.

The award “underscores our commitment to sound financial practices that serve the best interests of our community,” said Salida Finance Director, Aimee Tihonovich.

Tihonovich came to Salida from Pueblo County in 2019. Her team overcame several prior years of dysfunctional financial management in Salida, making a complete turnaround that continues today. Tihonovich has a history of both accounting and governmental work. She has earned Certificates of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for every year since 1998.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in its scope and represents a significant achievement by the city’s management team. Salida has also received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the budgets from 2022-2024.

By giving this award after their “rigorous” evaluation of the city’s financial report, the GFOA reinforces the city’s success in its commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and effective governance.
